Dragons Do Exist

Two Fin whales joined us for sunset as we sailed toward Portugal. We marveled at the whales, each the size of Detour, as they ambled near our stern for nearly a half-hour.

The whales added to our brimming excitement. Soon after our return to Portugal, we welcomed great friends aboard for a European adventure in one of our favorite places!

From our modest accommodation aboard Detour, we ventured into the Algarve region to eat, drink, and then have coffe. Freshly squeezed orange juice and cream-topped cappuccinos, kept us topped up while we visited local sights.

At Fortaleza de Sagres, we played ninja hide-n-seek between the fortress walls. We ventured into the center of a labyrinth to find dragon’s lair… thank goodness he didn’t wake!

At Castelo de Silves, we met a Knight and gave him the whereabouts of the dragon’s lair. In the castle’s cistern an exhibition on the Iberian Lynx held our attention. Outside the castle’s walls, a local potter tempted us inside with lovely ceramic tile souvenirs. Downtown at Silves we found the best piri-piri chicken we’ve ever tasted!

Friday came too quickly, as vacation neared the end, but happiness was had by all at a local pizza party.

After a well-deserved day at the beach, we were all recharged and ready for a bit of cityscape. We traveled to Lisbon where we all enjoyed sprawling in a luxurious, downtown apartment. The trolly guided our tour through the city’s cobbled streets.

Thanks so much for visiting us in Portugal! “Obrigada!”
